Dr Ahmad Allam

Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist

I earned my medical degree in Cairo, Egypt. My interest in Psychiatry began after seeing the
significant impact of mental illness. Seeking help can be challenging, especially due to stigma.
Reaching out is a sign of strength, and everyone deserves to be heard in a safe, supportive
environment.

I have worked in Egypt, England, and Scotland. My experience across different cultures has shaped
a non-judgmental, pluralist approach to care. As a native Arabic speaker, I am privileged to support
Arab individuals who wish to discuss their mental health within a culturally sensitive space.

My speciality is Forensic Psychiatry, which addresses the intersection of mental health and the law.
I am drawn to its clinical, legal, and ethical complexities. I value medico-legal work for the
opportunity to hear and present individuals’ stories, helping them understand significant life events
and move forward. My forensic practice remains grounded in general psychiatry, and I regularly
assess and treat people with mood, anxiety, personality, trauma-related, psychotic, and
neurodevelopmental conditions.

In my practice, I consider how biological, psychological, and social factors influence mental health,
rather than focusing solely on diagnosis. I work collaboratively with each person to help them
understand their challenges and identify evidence-based solutions that suit their needs.

I am actively involved in medical education, having completed a diploma and held honorary
teaching roles at British medical schools. I enjoy inspiring others about Psychiatry and exploring its
complexities. Teaching keeps me current with developments in mental health and strengthens my
ability to explain complex ideas clearly and supportively. This ensures my patients receive care
based on best practices and clear communication.
